@Zsailer should this repo be archived now, in favor of jupyter_events?

Given that the change to switch jupyterhub was only merged yesterday
(jupyterhub/jupyterhub#4807) it might be worth merging this + one more release before archiving for anyone who wants to migrate jupyterhub to py312 but not upgrade yet?

Thanks for the ping @tacaswell and @yuvipanda.

I went ahead and merged #69. I'm fine with merging this and releasing one last time.

But yes, we should archive this repo as soon as possible.

3.6 is not available on the runners anymore.

There is only limited Python support on macos runners

fixed up the remaining tests the same way as #69 and squashed to two commits.
